Sleeping in the Devil’s Bed – Day 2

Edward

Edward

Edward walked through the Black house searching for Damien. He watched the house maids as he moved through the halls, distracted by small details he’d never really paid attention to before. Their uniforms were barely appropriate, they all were similar in build if not height and coloring and they all wore collars and wrist cuffs. But most telling was the way they carried themselves. There was an obvious hierarchy among them and they usually kept their eyes downcast. Especially when talking to males. Edward stopped, watching one girl in particular. She was smaller and younger than the other girls. Eden’s age if she was lucky. He watched the way she moved as she went from shelf to shelf dusting books in the library. “Alexander’s favorite pet,” came a familiar voice behind him. Edward smiled. He’d heard the footsteps behind him and guessed at who they belonged to. He was glad to see that he was right. Edward turned and looked at Damien. “And which one’s yours?” he asked. Damien shrugged. “They’re all pretty much the same,” he replied. “If you want her, you’re welcome to her.” Edward shook his head. “I didn’t come here for that,” he said, walking back into the hallway. Damien smiled and walked with him. “You don’t even have to talk to them, Edward. Just walk up and touch them on the hip. Any one of them will bend over right then and there.” Edward nodded. “I’m aware.” He stopped and looked at Damien. “Actually, I came here to talk to you.” Damien nodded. “Come on. Let’s go in the kitchen.”

In the kitchen, Edward and Damien took a seat at the island with cups off coffee. “So, what’s up?” Damien asked. “You adjusting all right?” Edward nodded, taking a sip from his cup. “It’s… confusing, actually,’ Edward replied. Damien looked at him. “Other than the obvious, what’s going on?” Edward shrugged, looking at his cup. “Well… mostly, I guess, I’m confused about.. Eden.” Edward shook his head before looking at Damien and lowering his voice. “She’s my sister, but… it doesn’t *feel* like she’s my sister. I still love her as much as ever, but.. it just doesn’t feel the same.” Damien took another sip of his coffee. “So. What *does* it feel like?” Edward sighed. “Like… fucking her wasn’t as wrong as it should’ve been,” he said quietly. Damien looked at Edward. “You and *Eden*? Seriously?” Edward nodded and took another sip of his coffee. “What’s wrong with me?” he asked, his voice still low. Damien shrugged. “Who said anything is?” Edward looked at him incredulously. “She’s my *sister*, Damien. Seriously.” Damien looked at Edward. “Yeah, I’m very familiar with that particular bit of information. She’s also undead and you’re superhuman now. So.. is she *really* still your sister?” Edward smirked. “Well, I don’t know. Is Alexander still your father? Are Viktor and Lucien still your brothers?” Damien nodded. “Point taken. But.. I still can’t say anything’s wrong with you. *I* don’t have a sister so I don’t have a point of reference.”

Edward looked back at his coffee cup. “I heard her talking to Lucien. She said something about not being able to keep secrets from me anymore.” Edward shook his head. “I didn’t think she kept secrets from me.” Damien looked at him. “All people keeps secrets, Edward. From everyone.” Damien smiled. “Women keep more than anyone.” Edward nodded, sighing again. “I know. I just.. never thought of Eden as just another woman, I guess.” Damien nodded. “Maybe it’s time you did.” Edward shook his head. “She told me she’d turn me if I ever wanted her to. I have a feeling I’m going to want her to sooner rather than later.” Edward looked at Damien. “I know it’s not hers to give or her decision to make and all that. I just think I’m going to end up very much regretting this.” Damien looked at him curiously. “Why’s that?” he asked. Edward shrugged. “Because I’m already in love with her. And it’s just going to get worse from here.” Damien nodded. “I’ll send you a coupld of maids. It won’t fix it, but it’ll give you something to keep you distracted.”

Edward nodded again. “And speaking of distracted, I should get back. I still have to clean up the mess Eden made of our parents last night.” Damien nodded. “I’ll help you. I don’t have anything better to do right now.” Damien got up and headed to Lucien’s office with Edward.
